Hi all,
This is going to sound weird, but I want to break my work computer. It's a dinosaur running on 384 MB of RAM and, I think a pentium 980 mhz processor. I don't remember the exact specs off the top of my head, but it's just terrible and impossible to get anything done on that thing. The computers are locked up so I can't get in and update the RAM myself or I would.
I work at a very big company with all sorts of tech support. I've called in before saying my computer is running slow and they told me to re-boot and clear my cookies. 10386522 Some co-workers have stuff running on 2GB of RAM with some nice processors. They have had their old computers replaced when motherboards go out or they are newer to the company so they get newer computers (on a side note: it is very frustrating to see an old lady who has been with the company a week and doesn't know how to send an email w/ an attachment have a computer that is 5x faster than mine). The company is so big that computers do not get replaced unless they absolutely need to be. I talked to my manager and he was just as unhelpful as IT. I'm trying to consider my options here because waiting until that stupid thing breaks is not one of them anymore, it's been too long and the more I complain, the less attention I get about it. Here are the options that I'm coming up with-

1-figure out a better way to alert tech support that the computer needs to be replaced (bribes? incriminating photos? Dontknow)
or, and I really hesitate when suggesting this...
2- BREAK THE COMPUTER Crash

I would like find out if anyone knows of a way to break a computer without leaving any evidence. I can't 'accidentally spill a coke' on it because the tower is up high. I can't get in to the casing because it is locked. I do not have admin privileges on the computer but it appears that I can open a command prompt.

Any ideas?
I'm not sure how you could go about doing that, but have you thought about simply selling the computer on ebay or using it as your own private web server? I'm sure you could make a lot more money the second route if you have a good business plan and web app running on it. It's not too hard to get it up and running.
do you work for tech support at my company?

it's not my computer. can I erase the C drive or something?

Diagnostic CD's or even kill disks can have disastrous affects on a system if not used properly. It would behoove you to take great care when using things like kill disks. A sudden power loss shortly after a kill disk process starts would not necessarily clear the entire drive. But it would most likely delete some important files needed to run your system.

I also would be wary of cheap flash drives (retail $2). I had a cheap flash drive that a friend of mine modified one time so that it actually fit into the port backwards. Oh he thought it was hilarious. Unfortunately my computer didn't quite agree. I had to replace the Mobo.
